Is it cheaper to get work done while my RV is in the shop for accident repairs in Texas?

Sometimes RV’s have damages that were there prior to the collision that landed the RV in the shop. We call this prior damage. Insurance companies will even sometimes discount the repair coverage if the area being repaired had prior damage that they can prove. For example let’s say that you had a dent or even a cracked side wall or a door that was then hit by another vehicle. The other person’s insurance company will pay to fix your damage, but they might reduce the amount they are covering by factoring in the prior damage. Insurance companies are only required by law to return your vehicle to its pre-loss condition. That means if it had some other damages prior to the collision, they the insurance company is not required to pay to fix that. Replicating that dent, paint damage or cracked wall would be impossible, so you end up with a new panel and fresh paint. However the insurance company might require you to pay for some of the repair.

And what if the prior damage is adjacent to the collision damage, or even on the other side of the vehicle? Wouldn’t it be nice to get the other damage repaired at the same time?
One of the questions we hear quite often at our RV repair shop locations in Dallas and Fort Worth, Texas is, “While my RV accident damage is being repaired, can I get additional work done?” While you are without your RV, and it is in the capable hands of a body shop, why not get everything repaired at the same time. But how much will it cost?

At Coach Specialists of Texas, your additional work is always welcome.
Some RV body shops in Dallas might prefer that you schedule your additional work for another time, but at Coach Specialists of Texas, we are happy to perform all of your repair needs at once. In fact, just as it’s easier for you to have us handle your additional work while we repair your accident damage, it’s often easier for us, too, since we’ll already have your RV taken apart in our shop. It allows our technicians to survey your Recreational Vehicle and process—in detail—every element they will be working on. It is often easier to perfect every aspect of your RV that needs work while it is in the shop.

Common additional repairs that we perform at Coach Specialists of Texas:
Some of the most common types of additional work we perform on RV’s already in our shop include paint touch-ups, full repaint, custom paint work, window repair, windshield replacement, upholstery repair, headliner installation, headlight replacement, bumper repair, dent removal, rust repair, delamination repair, scratch removal, auto detailing, and more. For any work that you’d like to have done, simply let us know and we can provide you with a detailed estimate of costs. We can also maintain a separate work order from your accident repairs that will be covered by your insurance. If you’re concerned about being without your RV for an extended period of time, we can let you know when your work is estimated to be completed and we can provide you with updates throughout your repair process.

Repairs might be CHEAPER

In some cases, the additional repairs might be cheaper for you to perform while we have your RV, versus if you were to come back in and repair the other damage. If we have your RV disassembled, sanded and are doing paint and body work, it is really cost effective for us to continue to repair all of your damage. There is no need to pay the labor and materials twice. This is a significant cost savings to you. Many times you are only paying for a couple of hours of additional labor and a little more material. Sometimes it can even lead to a better repair. Let’s say that you have a dent on your quarter panel on the same side as the collision damage for your doors and fender. It will be much easier to make the paint match if we are spraying the entire length of the RV, rather than just the collision damaged portion. Have a little peeling clear coat on some areas? Let us take care of that for you, while we are re-spraying the RV.
