How much to repair or replace my RV storage Compartment?
Probably one of the most common areas on an RV that get collision damage are the wheel wells from blow outs, the front or rear cap from backing into things, the Roof from tree branches or low overhangs and finally the storage compartments from everything else.
So it comes as no surprise that we get a lot of internet quote requests involving RV storage compartments or Storage compartment doors. A lot of RV’ers are do-it-yourselfers so we often get asked where people can go to get new storage compartment doors.
Depending on the manufacturer, you may have a hard time finding the exact doors for your trailer. But one place to look is always ebay or go online and look for RV savage yards. But this only works if your doors are the only part that is broken and that is not usually the case.
If you have damaged your storage compartment in a minor scrape or even a significant collision, you would be best served by taking it to a bona fide RV collision repair specialists.
If you simply replace the doors and don’t inspect or address the compartments themselves you will quickly start experiencing the ravages of water. Even if you do not use the compartments for storage, letting the water enter the compartments is a fast track way to a much bigger problem.
How much does it cost to repair a damaged RV storage compartment?
Depending on how bad the damage is, we might have to strip away a lot of the underside of the RV. Some RV compartments are raw and unfinished, others are quite well appointed with carpeting and even lighting.
The external framing could be made of wood or more likely metal. Some or all of that will need to be cut out and replaced if it cannot be straightened. IF you RV has fiberglass sides we will have to cut out and replace the damage area.
Once replaced we will have to recaulk all seams and replace any carpeting. Finally we will have to repaint the area and blend the paint into your existing paint area.
Pricing for a repair like this could run just a couple of hundred dollars for us to make a new set of doors and paint them. A more extensive job could end up costing you a couple of thousand dollars.
