As you may already know, at Coach we offer delamination repair and faded gel coat repair. One questions we get asked a lot by our customers what is the best wax for RV gel coat. Let’s face it, over time your RV is going to receive a lot of sun. It’s also going to see some minor dings and chips from regular wear and tear.
When it comes to taking care of your RV, there are a lot of choices for the best gel coat. The number of choices can be so overwhelming it’s hard to choose just one or know which is best. We know you want to have a good-looking RV when you hit the road and gel coat is the way to make that happen.
Coach Specialists has done the research to put together a list of the best wax for your RVs gel coat. Below, we’ll cover the top five.
What is the Best Wax for RV Gel Coat?
Now, it wouldn’t be fair to rank the waxes because every person is different and so is their RV. But we’ve created a list to describe what we think are the best waxes to be used on your RV. After all, you need to protect your gel coat to prevent delamination and protect from other harmful debris.
Meguir’s M-5016 Cleaner Wax is one of the best-reviewed waxes on Amazon. Used on boats and RV’s, it cleans and polishes your RV like new. It also has the ability to fix minor scratches, haziness, and minor oxidation. It protects against UV rays, corrosion, and salt debris. It also has a non-abrasive formula which can be used on different surfaces. This means you can use it on your boat (if you have one). The one feature we didn’t like about this product was that it doesn’t leave the best glossy effect.
303 (30320) UV Protectant
The 303 UV Protectant wax is one of our top choices simply because it is so versatile. Texas RV owners face a lot of different weather types that affect different parts of their RV. This solution can work on rubber, plastic, fiberglass, vinyl, and even leather. It works great for protecting vinyl RV graphics. Instead of the popular glossy finish, this formula provides a matte finish and repels a lot of dirt and debris. It doesn’t leave behind any greasy feeling either. One of our favorite features about this wax is that it is non-toxic and virtually odorless.
Nu Finish Liquid Polish
This one is best for protection. It’s also extremely versatile on different objects; it’s safe to use on cars, motorcycles, boats, and even some household items. This is one of the few waxes we’ve seen that provides that shine every RV owner looks for. It’s easy to apply and can be done during even the sunniest and hottest of days. The downsides we noticed for this product included a strong odor. Unlike other waxes we’ve encountered, this one was the most potent. It also can’t really be used on rubber or plastic materials, so be careful when applying to certain areas of your RV.
Turtle Wax T-477R Ice Spray
This product is truly a wonder. The turtle wax is probably your best bet when working on a budget due to not only its function but size. You can get a 20 ounce, easy to use spray bottle for LESS than $8.00 on Amazon. Can you beat it? The spray function on the bottle is super easy and doesn’t require constant pouring and rubbing. This solution is also highly protective against harsh Texan climates. It provides the perfect layers for smooth water beading and UV protection. Like the 303 Protectant, it is non-toxic and includes lubrication agents to help create a streak-free gloss. It is also easily removed. The only downside we encountered with this particular wax is that it must be applied every 2 or 3 weeks.
CorrosionX 61002 Rejex
We hear a lot of our clients talk about this product when they come into our shop. This product goes on thin but creates a stain-free finish and protects against contaminants like a champ. It is probably one of the best longer-lasting products we’ve seen in terms of length of shine and protection. It is also a major player in the protection against oxidation which is a huge problem for Texas RV owners who are unable to store their vehicles indoors or in shade during the harsher seasons. It is also one of the best products to give that glossy shine. The only downside to this product is the price. A 16 oz. bottle on Amazon will typically run you almost $25 plus shipping. But, you get what you pay for!
Having Your RV Waxed
A lot of work can go into waxing your RV. It takes a lot of time, effort, and sometimes more money than you think (especially if something goes wrong and you need extra work). Depending on the time you have available and the size of your RV, it’s very easy not to finish and have an uneven coating.
At Coach Specialists, we have technicians with an expert knowledge of RV care. We can look at the age of your RV and determine exactly what’s going to benefit its life. Older RVs require much more work on your part and you can actually hurt the coatings if the waxing is done wrong. At Coach, we also have the best facility and tools to properly prep, coat, and wax your RV to get it looking like new. We can buff away any abrasions, fill and correct any scratches or tears, and even find and fix RV delamination. It can be tough to remove old wax and coatings on your own with tools.
