The top 5 mistakes all RV dealers in Dallas, Texas make

Before we opened Coach Specialists of Texas, we were RV enthusiasts with a successful auto body shop dedicated to repairing standard vehicles.  When we needed to have work done on our RV, we made the unfortunate discovery that RV dealers are really only interested in selling RVs, not repairing them.  It was our terrible experience as RV repair customers that caused us to sell our auto body shop to a national chain in order to open a shop that specializes in RV collision repair.  The RV and motorhome community desperately needed a reliable shop to repair their vehicles with both precision and care.

Before you take your RV to your dealer for repairs, watch out for these common mistakes that RV dealers make:

They neglect to prepare you for all that is involved in ownership.
Most of our customers and friends in the RV community took their time before purchasing their motorhomes.  It’s not the kind of purchase anyone makes lightly, since it’s both a huge responsibility and a decent chunk of cash.  Unfortunately, RV dealers typically fail to inform their customers of all that is involved in ownership—particularly of the extensive maintenance procedures that are necessary.

They provide poor communication after the sale.
When you are on the verge of purchasing an RV, of course a dealer will be enthusiastic and attentive.  However, once they see your taillights, they would really rather not hear from you again.  Selling an RV brings in much easier bucks than repairing one, so repair jobs are mostly just a hassle to them.

They hire underqualified automotive technicians.
Again, because RV dealers devote more time, energy, and money to selling vehicles instead of repairing them, they do not invest in top-notch RV repair technicians.  As you can imagine, repairing a motorhome is much more elaborate than repairing a car or truck.  It requires extensive training that not many technicians have.

They fail to hire enough staff.
Besides hiring underqualified technicians, RV dealers also neglect to hire enough staff to conduct repairs.  It puts a significant strain on the techs they do have, which can lead to shoddy, incomplete repair work.

They overpromise and under-deliver.
In an effort to secure your purchase of a vehicle, RV dealers will make many promises to you, but they will often fall way short of delivering on their promises—especially when it comes to repairs.  Dealers often have a long backlog of customers waiting to have work done on their RVs, because the dealers simply can’t meet the needs of their customers.
