Fort Worth RV Repair: Top 3 most common RV breakdowns in the summer

We’re in the middle of a beautiful summer here in Texas, so of course many of us RV enthusiasts are taking this opportunity to travel.  In the midst of a great expedition, the last thing a motorhome owner wants to experience is a breakdown.  Unfortunately, with all of the traveling happening during this time of year, certain types of RV damage are quite common.  If you’ve just suffered some damage to your motorhome or if you’re about to leave on a trip and you want to be prepared for all possibilities, here are the most common RV breakdowns we see at Coach Specialists of Texas during the summer season.

RV tire blowouts.
With all the wear and tear that tires experience, it’s understandable that they would occasionally blow out—especially if they have not been properly cared for.  To repair or replace motorhome tires, it can cost you anywhere from $1,000 to $25,000.  Unfortunately, RV insurance typically doesn’t cover this—only the resulting damage.  The best thing you can do to prevent a tire blowout is to give your tires some extra TLC—after all, they are the only parts of your vehicle that actually make contact with the road.  Inspect your tires before any long trip and every time you get gas.  Look for proper tire pressure, even wear, and any punctures.

RV roof repair and replacement.
Another common type of motorhome damage we see in the summer is roof damage.  In the summer, many tree branches are heavy with leaves and they can easily damage a roof as you are making your way down the road.  When not being damaged by trees, RV roofs frequently take damage from outdoor signage, hail storms, and even owner neglect.  To replace an RV roof, it can cost upwards of $5,000 and RV insurance will only cover this if the damage is not due to owner neglect.   It’s important to clean and maintain your roof regularly in order to avoid preventable water leaks.

RV exterior damage from scraping objects.
It’s common during this time of year for motorhomes to suffer side damage from tree branches, bridges, signage, and more.  The cost for side damage repair starts at $500 and should be covered by your RV insurance, depending on your coverage.  The best way to avoid this kind of damage is to be conscious of the size of your RV and to slow down upon encountering any possibly damaging obstacles.
